R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and |
|
meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the friends and family |
|
of Dr. Lauren Gray Gilstrap who passed away on October 21, 2022, at |
|
the age of 38; and |
|
WHEREAS, Lauren Gilstrap was born to Rodney and Sherry |
|
Gilstrap in Marshall on November 25, 1983, and she grew up with the |
|
companionship of a brother, Stephen; she graduated as valedictorian |
|
of her high school class and she received two bachelor's degrees |
|
from The University of Texas at Austin, where she was a Truman |
|
Scholar and a member of Phi Beta Kappa; she went on to earn a doctor |
|
of medicine degree and a master's degree in public health from |
|
Harvard University, and she completed an internal medicine |
|
residency at Massachusetts General Hospital, as well as fellowships |
|
in cardiovascular medicine, heart failure, and cardiac |
|
transplantation at Brigham and Women's Hospital; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 2018, Dr. Gilstrap moved to Hanover, New |
|
Hampshire, to join the faculty of the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical |
|
Center Heart and Vascular Center with a joint appointment in the |
|
Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice; in |
|
addition, she was an assistant professor at the Dartmouth College |
|
Geisel School of Medicine, and in 2021, she became the program head |
|
for advanced heart disease and transplant cardiology in the Heart |
|
and Vascular Center; during her time at Dartmouth, she was |
|
recognized as an outstanding clinician, educator, and mentor for |
|
students, residents, fellows, and faculty; and |
|
WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Dr. Gilstrap benefited from |
|
the love and support of her wife, Janet Milley, and she took great |
|
pride in her two children, Katelyn and David; in her leisure hours, |
|
she enjoyed skiing, snowboarding, climbing mountains, and |
|
traveling with her family and friends; and |
|
WHEREAS, Lauren Gilstrap embraced life to the fullest, and |
|
she will forever remain a vibrant presence for those who knew and |
|
loved her; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature |
|
hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Lauren Gray Gilstrap and |
|
extend sincere condolences to all who mourn her passing; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this |
|
day, it do so in memory of Dr. Lauren Gilstrap. |
