Lauren Gilstrap | ||
WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and | ||
meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the friends and | ||
family of Dr. Lauren Gray Gilstrap who passed away on October 21, | ||
2022, at the age of 38; and | ||
WHEREAS, Lauren Gilstrap was born to Rodney and Sherry | ||
Gilstrap in Marshall on November 25, 1983, and she grew up with | ||
the companionship of a brother, Stephen; she graduated as | ||
valedictorian of her high school class and she received two | ||
bachelor's degrees from The University of Texas at Austin, where | ||
she was a Truman Scholar and a member of Phi Beta Kappa; she went | ||
on to earn a doctor of medicine degree and a master's degree in | ||
public health from Harvard University, and she completed an | ||
internal medicine residency at Massachusetts General Hospital, | ||
as well as fellowships in cardiovascular medicine, heart | ||
failure, and cardiac transplantation at Brigham and Women's | ||
Hospital; and | ||
WHEREAS, In 2018, Dr. Gilstrap moved to Hanover, New | ||
Hampshire, to join the faculty of the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical | ||
Center Heart and Vascular Center with a joint appointment in the | ||
Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice; in | ||
addition, she was an assistant professor at the Dartmouth College | ||
Geisel School of Medicine, and in 2021, she became the program | ||
head for advanced heart disease and transplant cardiology in the | ||
Heart and Vascular Center; during her time at Dartmouth, she was | ||
recognized as an outstanding clinician, educator, and mentor for | ||
students, residents, fellows, and faculty; and | ||
WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Dr. Gilstrap benefited from | ||
the love and support of her wife, Janet Milley, and she took great | ||
pride in her two children, Katelyn and David; in her leisure | ||
hours, she enjoyed skiing, snowboarding, climbing mountains, and | ||
traveling with her family and friends; and | ||
WHEREAS, Lauren Gilstrap embraced life to the fullest, and | ||
she will forever remain a vibrant presence for those who knew and | ||
loved her; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th | ||
Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Lauren Gray | ||
Gilstrap and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn her | ||
passing; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be | ||
prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns | ||
this day, it do so in memory of Dr. Lauren Gilstrap. | ||
