| WHEREAS, America's Defenders Foundation in McKinney is | ||
| hosting its annual Thin Blue Line Ball on April 29, 2017; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Organized in 2015 by the foundation's president | ||
| Mike Rumfield and his wife Lailani, the Thin Blue Line Ball is | ||
| held to celebrate the work of law enforcement officers who devote | ||
| their lives to protecting the safety and welfare of the public | ||
| and to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in | ||
| service to their communities; the first event drew an attendance | ||
| of more than 125 officers and spouses, and this year, it is | ||
| expected to attract between 300 and 400 attendees; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The Thin Blue Line Ball consists of an honor guard | ||
| presentation, ceremonies, and an appearance by a keynote speaker, | ||
| as well as dinner and entertainment, and at the 2017 event, the | ||
| inaugural Spartan Award is being presented to recognize a law | ||
| enforcement officer who has performed with valor and distinction in | ||
| situations of great difficulty; through corporate and private | ||
| sponsorships, a raffle, and a silent auction, the ball also allows | ||
| America's Defenders Foundation to raise funds in behalf of its | ||
| year-round mission to provide support for disabled veterans and | ||
| police families; and | ||
| WHEREAS, All citizens owe a debt of gratitude to those who | ||
| answer the noble calling of law enforcement, and the Thin Blue | ||
| Line Ball is paying well-deserved tribute to the courage, | ||
| commitment, and sacrifice of these exceptional men and women; | ||
| now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
| Legislature, hereby commemorate the 2017 Thin Blue Line Ball and | ||
| extend sincere best wishes to all those in attendance for a | ||
| meaningful and memorable evening; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| America's Defenders Foundation as an expression of high regard | ||
| from the Texas Senate. | ||
