Danny Strickland | ||
WHEREAS, Danny Paul Strickland of Longview passed away on | ||
January 18, 2021, at the age of 73, leaving his loved ones with a | ||
wealth of memories to cherish; and | ||
WHEREAS, Born in Longview on March 11, 1947, Danny | ||
Strickland was the son of Ben and Tommie Strickland; he graduated | ||
from Gladewater High School in 1965, and he would go on to remain | ||
close to many of the friends he made in his youth; during the | ||
Vietnam War, he served his country as a member of the United | ||
States Army, where he attained the rank of staff sergeant and | ||
earned a Bronze Star; and | ||
WHEREAS, After returning home, Mr. Strickland attended | ||
college at Stephen F. Austin State University through the G.I. | ||
Bill and received a degree in education; however, he taught at | ||
the Arp school district for only three days before changing | ||
careers, and he went on to work in the oil and gas and heavy | ||
equipment industries until his eventual retirement from Darr | ||
Equipment Co.; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Strickland met his future wife, Charla Rolph, | ||
on a blind date in 1997; their relationship was a source of much | ||
happiness to him, and he enjoyed spending his retirement years with | ||
her at his side; he cherished his daughters, Mandy and Erin, taking | ||
great pride in their accomplishments, and he was further blessed | ||
with four grandchildren, Lauren, Kate, Noble, and Pike; and | ||
WHEREAS, A loving family man and a true and loyal friend, | ||
Danny Strickland will forever be remembered with deep affection | ||
by all those who shared in the richness of his life; now, | ||
therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th | ||
Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Danny Paul | ||
Strickland and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his | ||
family: to his wife, Charla Rolph-Strickland; to his daughters, | ||
Mandy Strickland Kizer and her husband, Kris, and Erin Strickland | ||
Johnston and her husband, Jeff; to his grandchildren, Lauren, | ||
Kate, Noble, and Pike; to his mother, Tommie Strickland; to his | ||
brother, Leon Strickland, and his wife, Lynn; to his | ||
sister-in-law, Sally Knox; to his brother-in-law, Jim Leonard, | ||
and his wife, Linda; to his niece, Leslie Knox, and nephews, | ||
Charles Herrington and Richard McKee; and to his other relatives | ||
and numerous friends; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be | ||
prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns | ||
this day, it do so in memory of Danny Paul Strickland. | ||
