| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize Reverend Delbert Ray Jefferson and First Lady Minnie J. | ||
| Jefferson for 25 years of outstanding service to Christian Home | ||
| Missionary Baptist Church; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Reverend and Mrs. Jefferson began their service | ||
| to Christian Home Missionary Baptist Church on February 2, 1986, | ||
| following in the footsteps of such leaders as founding pastor | ||
| Reverend Benjamin Leroy and subsequent pastors Reverend Lucious | ||
| Basil Tolson and Reverend Mitchell W. Moore; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Under Reverend and Mrs. Jefferson's guidance and | ||
| leadership, the church has continued to grow and to play a vital | ||
| role in the life of the Third Ward community; communion service | ||
| was instituted at the 11:00 a.m. worship services and a | ||
| churchwide observance of Black History was initiated; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Reverend Jefferson has instituted measures to | ||
| keep the church on a sound financial footing, creating a building | ||
| fund, which offset all costs of building a new fellowship hall, | ||
| and solidifying the process of setting the church's annual | ||
| budget; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Inspirational and dedicated to helping others, | ||
| this beloved pastor has devoted his time and energy selflessly to | ||
| his congregation and the people of the Third Ward; an | ||
| accomplished scholar and theologian, he has had a profound | ||
| influence on the lives of countless people; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd | ||
| Legislature, hereby commend Reverend Delbert Ray Jefferson and | ||
| First Lady Minnie J. Jefferson on their years of exemplary | ||
| service to Christian Home Missionary Baptist Church and extend to | ||
| them best wishes for continued success in all their future | ||
| endeavors; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| this distinguished couple as an expression of esteem from the | ||
| Texas Senate. | ||
