WHEREAS, For more than 25 years, The Covenant School in | ||
Dallas has provided students with a classical Christian education | ||
rooted in the pursuit of knowledge in the areas of grammar, logic, | ||
and rhetoric, with inspiration from classic literature; and | ||
WHEREAS, During the past school year, the fifth grade class | ||
at Covenant has demonstrated great diligence in studying the | ||
history of the great State of Texas; to supplement their | ||
instruction, the students attended a living history day that taught | ||
them about the real lives of early Texas settlers, and they also | ||
learned about the Alamo and read a historical novel about a German | ||
family who immigrated to the Texas Hill Country; and | ||
WHEREAS, To immerse themselves further in the story of Texas, | ||
the fifth grade class performed a play for younger students in | ||
Covenant's Grammar School about the meaning and history of the six | ||
national flags that have flown over Texas during its different eras | ||
of governance; the class's yearlong project culminated in a | ||
multi-day trip to the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum and the | ||
Texas State Capitol and a visit to the historic Mission San José in | ||
San Antonio; and | ||
WHEREAS, Throughout this endeavor, the students received | ||
excellent instruction and leadership from teachers Megan Yohe, | ||
Carrie Anthony, Anne Walton, Jennifer Farrow, and Jody Gibson and | ||
from administrators Dr. Robert Littlejohn, Laura Mountjoy, Melanie | ||
Mittel, and Caylin Brown; their teachers were responsible not only | ||
for implementing the lesson plan but also for guiding students in | ||
completing service-oriented tasks at Covenant, which included | ||
raising and lowering the American and Texas flags according to | ||
proper protocols; and | ||
WHEREAS, Students in the fifth grade class at The Covenant | ||
School have demonstrated a commendable interest in the people and | ||
events that have shaped the Lone Star State, and it is a pleasure to | ||
recognize these outstanding young Texans; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature | ||
hereby honor the fifth grade students from The Covenant School for | ||
their dedication to learning about Texas history and extend to them | ||
sincere best wishes for continued success as engaged citizens and | ||
lifelong learners; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for the class as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
Senate. |
