SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 449
WHEREAS, For more than 25 years, The Covenant School in
Dallas has provided students with a classical Christian
education rooted in the pursuit of knowledge in the areas of
grammar, logic, and rhetoric, with inspiration from classic
  literature; and

WHEREAS, During the past school year, the fifth grade class
at Covenant has demonstrated great diligence in studying the
history of the great State of Texas; to supplement their
instruction, the students attended a living history day that
taught them about the real lives of early Texas settlers, and
they also learned about the Alamo and read a historical novel
  about a German family who immigrated to the Texas Hill Country;
  and

WHEREAS, To immerse themselves further in the story of
Texas, the fifth grade class performed a play for younger
students in Covenant's Grammar School about the meaning and
history of the six national flags that have flown over Texas
during its different eras of governance; the class's yearlong
project culminated in a multi-day trip to the Bob Bullock Texas
State History Museum and the Texas State Capitol and a visit to
the historic Mission San José in San Antonio; and

WHEREAS, Throughout this endeavor, the students received
excellent instruction and leadership from teachers Megan Yohe,
Carrie Anthony, Anne Walton, Jennifer Farrow, and Jody Gibson and
from administrators Dr. Robert Littlejohn, Laura Mountjoy,
Melanie Mittel, and Caylin Brown; their teachers were
responsible not only for implementing the lesson plan but also
for guiding students in completing service-oriented tasks at
Covenant, which included raising and lowering the American and
Texas flags according to proper protocols; and

WHEREAS, Students in the fifth grade class at The Covenant
School have demonstrated a commendable interest in the people and
events that have shaped the Lone Star State, and it is a pleasure
to recognize these outstanding young Texans; now, therefore, be

Legislature, hereby honor the fifth grade students from The
Covenant School for their dedication to learning about Texas
history and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued
