R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, In 2011, Cruz Garza, Jr., retired from Rio Grande
  City High School, where he had been the auto body instructor for
  more than four decades; and
         WHEREAS, Born on October 2, 1939, in Los Villareales to Cruz
  Garza and Guadalupe Rodriguez Garza, Cruz Garza, Jr., grew up in a
  family of 14 children; he played baseball for Rio Grande City High
  School and was part of the 1959 team that was the most successful in
  the school's history; in 1961, two years after graduation, he
  married his high school sweetheart, Diana Solis Garza, and together
  they have shared a rewarding relationship and raised three
  children, Clarissa, Diana Margot, and Luis Carlos; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Garza was hired as an auto body instructor by Rio
  Grande City High School in 1970; over the next 41 years, he served
  as a mentor to many students, and a number of those he taught won
  first place in state competitions and went on to make their living
  in the auto repair and maintenance fields; in recognition of his
  outstanding work, he was named Teacher of the Year for the 1999-2000
  school year; and
         WHEREAS, A successful business owner in addition to being an
  educator, Mr. Garza has run Garza's Paint and Body Shop since 1979,
  and he plans to continue to oversee it in the years ahead; his other
  plans include enjoying his newly remodeled house, tending his
  goats, and spending time with his six grandchildren and six
  great-grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Cruz Garza, Jr., has made a positive difference in
  the lives of many young Texans, and he may indeed reflect with pride
  on a career well spent as he embarks on an exciting new chapter in
  his life; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Cruz Garza,
  Jr., on his retirement from Rio Grande City High School and extend
  to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Garza as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
