WHEREAS, In 2011, Cruz Garza, Jr., retired from Rio Grande | ||
City High School, where he had been the auto body instructor for | ||
more than four decades; and | ||
WHEREAS, Born on October 2, 1939, in Los Villareales to Cruz | ||
Garza and Guadalupe Rodriguez Garza, Cruz Garza, Jr., grew up in a | ||
family of 14 children; he played baseball for Rio Grande City High | ||
School and was part of the 1959 team that was the most successful in | ||
the school's history; in 1961, two years after graduation, he | ||
married his high school sweetheart, Diana Solis Garza, and together | ||
they have shared a rewarding relationship and raised three | ||
children, Clarissa, Diana Margot, and Luis Carlos; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Garza was hired as an auto body instructor by Rio | ||
Grande City High School in 1970; over the next 41 years, he served | ||
as a mentor to many students, and a number of those he taught won | ||
first place in state competitions and went on to make their living | ||
in the auto repair and maintenance fields; in recognition of his | ||
outstanding work, he was named Teacher of the Year for the 1999-2000 | ||
school year; and | ||
WHEREAS, A successful business owner in addition to being an | ||
educator, Mr. Garza has run Garza's Paint and Body Shop since 1979, | ||
and he plans to continue to oversee it in the years ahead; his other | ||
plans include enjoying his newly remodeled house, tending his | ||
goats, and spending time with his six grandchildren and six | ||
great-grandchildren; and | ||
WHEREAS, Cruz Garza, Jr., has made a positive difference in | ||
the lives of many young Texans, and he may indeed reflect with pride | ||
on a career well spent as he embarks on an exciting new chapter in | ||
his life; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas | ||
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Cruz Garza, | ||
Jr., on his retirement from Rio Grande City High School and extend | ||
to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Mr. Garza as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
House of Representatives. |
