WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the | ||
passing of Ruben E. Garza of San Marcos on December 26, 2022, at the | ||
age of 63; and | ||
WHEREAS, Born in McAllen on September 23, 1959, Ruben Garza | ||
was the son of Gloria and Eleazar Garza, and he grew up with the | ||
companionship of three siblings, Diana, Rick, and Graciela; later | ||
in life, he became the proud father of a daughter, Kathryn; and | ||
WHEREAS, After receiving his bachelor's degree in political | ||
science from Southwest Texas State University, Mr. Garza worked in | ||
the office of State Senator Gonzalo Barrientos and at the Texas | ||
General Land Office; he later returned to San Marcos and became the | ||
executive director of the Southside Community Center; in his 36 | ||
years of distinguished service, he oversaw the development of | ||
affordable senior housing, coordinated Thanksgiving dinners for | ||
thousands of people each year, and was integral to the creation of a | ||
summer program that improved the homes of local residents who are | ||
low-income, elderly, or disabled; and | ||
WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to his community, Mr. Garza served | ||
as the first Hispanic president of the San Marcos Consolidated | ||
Independent School District, and he was a member of the San Marcos | ||
Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Youth Service Bureau, | ||
and Blanco River Regional Recovery Team; sustained by a deep and | ||
abiding faith, he was a dedicated congregant of First United | ||
Methodist Church; and | ||
WHEREAS, Ruben Garza made a lasting and positive difference | ||
in the San Marcos community and beyond, and he will forever remain a | ||
source of inspiration to those who were fortunate enough to know | ||
him; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Ruben E. Garza and | ||
extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his | ||
daughter, Kathryn Garza; to his siblings, Diana Negrete and her | ||
husband, David, and Rick Garza and his wife, Maritza; to his nieces | ||
and nephews; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it | ||
further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of | ||
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ruben | ||
Garza. |
