R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Proud descendants of American veterans are
  gathering in Houston from August 23 to 25, 2013, for the Sons of the
  American Legion National Convention; and
         WHEREAS, Created in 1932, this organization is affiliated
  with the American Legion, and it is open to men and boys of all ages
  whose parents or grandparents served in the armed forces of the
  United States; and
         WHEREAS, The group works to preserve American traditions and
  values, to care for veterans and their families, to improve the
  lives of the nation's children, and to promote the fundamentals of
  good citizenship; and
         WHEREAS, During the convention, the baton of leadership will
  pass from Chris Huntzinger of Pennsylvania, who served as national
  commander during 2012, to the new national commander, Joe Gladden
  of Maryland; and
         WHEREAS, The citizens of our nation owe a profound debt of
  gratitude to those men and women who have taken up arms to defend
  our freedom, and for more than 80 years, the Sons of the American
  Legion has helped lead the effort to support and honor our brave
  veterans; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commemorate the 2013 Sons
  of the American Legion National Convention in Houston and extend to
  the organization's officers and members sincere best wishes for a
  meaningful and memorable event; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the Sons of the American Legion as an expression of
  high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
