WHEREAS, Proud descendants of American veterans are | ||
gathering in Houston from August 23 to 25, 2013, for the Sons of the | ||
American Legion National Convention; and | ||
WHEREAS, Created in 1932, this organization is affiliated | ||
with the American Legion, and it is open to men and boys of all ages | ||
whose parents or grandparents served in the armed forces of the | ||
United States; and | ||
WHEREAS, The group works to preserve American traditions and | ||
values, to care for veterans and their families, to improve the | ||
lives of the nation's children, and to promote the fundamentals of | ||
good citizenship; and | ||
WHEREAS, During the convention, the baton of leadership will | ||
pass from Chris Huntzinger of Pennsylvania, who served as national | ||
commander during 2012, to the new national commander, Joe Gladden | ||
of Maryland; and | ||
WHEREAS, The citizens of our nation owe a profound debt of | ||
gratitude to those men and women who have taken up arms to defend | ||
our freedom, and for more than 80 years, the Sons of the American | ||
Legion has helped lead the effort to support and honor our brave | ||
veterans; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas | ||
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commemorate the 2013 Sons | ||
of the American Legion National Convention in Houston and extend to | ||
the organization's officers and members sincere best wishes for a | ||
meaningful and memorable event; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for the Sons of the American Legion as an expression of | ||
high regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
