R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Claud B. Jacobs of Yoakum, founding chair of
  Bluebonnet Youth Ranch, has distinguished himself through his
  extensive record of community service; and
         WHEREAS, In 1968, Mr. Jacobs joined with other area
  businessmen to establish Bluebonnet Youth Ranch, a private,
  nonprofit facility licensed by the state to provide long-term
  residential care and treatment to children in need; to raise funds
  for the home, Mr. Jacobs conceived of an annual celebrity golf
  tournament; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Jacobs has served his community in myriad
  capacities, including president of the Yoakum Jaycees, the Yoakum
  Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Yoakum United Way Fund Drive; in
  addition, he founded Mended Hearts of Victoria, and he has held
  leadership roles in many other charitable and civic organizations,
  among them the Yoakum Chapter of the American Cancer Society, the
  Food Bank of the Golden Crescent, the Victoria Chamber of Commerce,
  and the Victoria Port Authority; he also helped restart the City
  Championship golf tournament in Victoria, and the trophy was named
  in his honor; and
         WHEREAS, Deeply committed to education, Mr. Jacobs has
  served as president of the board of St. Joseph School; he was a
  member of the University of Houston-Victoria presidential search
  committee and downward expansion committee, and he and his wife,
  Mary Virginia Jacobs, have endowed a nursing scholarship and golf
  and baseball scholarships at the institution; moreover, he has
  raised over $300,000 for UHV athletics through the Claud Jacobs
  Intercollegiate Tournament; the university presented him with its
  People Who Make a Difference Award, and his numerous accolades
  further include selection as Member of the Year by the Victoria
  Chamber of Commerce and as Citizen of the Year by the Victoria
  Rotary Club; and
         WHEREAS, Claud Jacobs has greatly benefited his fellow
  citizens through his wide-ranging civic endeavors, and his example
  of dedicated leadership is an inspiration to all who know him; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
  Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby honor Claud B. Jacobs for
  his outstanding record of community service and extend to him
  sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Jacobs as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
