  H.R. No. 2096

R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Ysleta Independent School District in El Paso is
celebrating the 100th anniversary of its founding in 2015; and
WHEREAS, The origins of the district can be traced back to
1915, when voters approved a $17,000 bond measure to build a school
on the corner of Alameda Avenue and Harris Street; two years later,
Ysleta Elementary School opened its doors to elementary and
secondary students from the village of Ysleta; and
WHEREAS, In 1923, the San Jose, Texico, and Ysleta school
districts combined to form the Ysleta Common School District, and a
$30,000 bond measure was passed to fund the construction of a second
school; the district was renamed the Ysleta Independent School
District in 1937, and at the time it served a student population of
2,000 at five campuses, including Ysleta High School; and
WHEREAS, Today the third-largest school district in the city
of El Paso, Ysleta ISD encompasses 7 high schools, 11 middle
schools, 37 elementary schools, 3 prekindergarten centers, and 6
special campuses, which together provide a supportive and
innovative learning environment to more than 42,500 students; along
with its growth in enrollment, the district has seen considerable
progress in student achievement, and 10 of its campuses have been
designated as National Blue Ribbon Schools by the U.S. Department
  of Education; and
WHEREAS, Although the community has experienced a panorama of
change over the past century, Ysleta ISD has remained steadfast in
its commitment to high-quality public education, and this milestone
is a fitting occasion to recognize the district's proud history and
legacy of excellence; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
Legislature hereby commemorate the centennial of the Ysleta
Independent School District and extend to its students, faculty,
and staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it
  further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the district as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
