WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the | ||
death of Madeline Cleveland Harris of Houston on September 24, | ||
2009, at the age of 85; and | ||
WHEREAS, Born on July 22, 1924, in Glen Flora to Earl and | ||
Mamie Cleveland, Madeline Harris was a resident of Houston for 67 | ||
years; she married I. B. Harris, and the couple shared a rewarding | ||
life together until his passing in 1970; she was also preceded in | ||
death by her brother, Earl George Cleveland; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mrs. Harris enjoyed a notable career in the | ||
insurance field, working for 31 years for The Atlantic Companies | ||
and spending a decade with J. H. Blades and Co.; a member and former | ||
president of the Houston National Association of Insurance Women, | ||
she was honored with the organization's Insurance Professional of | ||
the Year Award in 1990; in addition, Mrs. Harris was a valued member | ||
of St. Stephen's United Methodist Church; and | ||
WHEREAS, Madeline Harris lived a caring and purposeful life, | ||
and cherished memories of time spent in her company will long endure | ||
in the hearts of those who held her dear; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas | ||
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Madeline Cleveland | ||
Harris and extend deepest sympathy to all who mourn her passing. |
