R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, The life of an admired educator and devoted family
  man came to an untimely end with the passing of Dr. David Kirk
  Wittenburg of El Paso on October 26, 2015, at the age of 53; and
         WHEREAS, Born on March 6, 1962, to Joe and Ruthy Wittenburg,
  David Wittenburg grew up with a brother, Alex, and three sisters,
  Leslie, Donna, and Michelle; he attended public schools in Lometa,
  where he excelled in track and field and other sports, and his
  interest in athletics led him to obtain a bachelor's degree in
  physical education from Angelo State University; following his
  graduation, he began his career as a physical education teacher and
  coach in the Northside Independent School District in San Antonio;
  and
         WHEREAS, During his time as a schoolteacher, Dr. Wittenburg
  developed an interest in studying the cardiovascular health of
  children; he returned to college, earning a master's degree in
  physical education from Texas State University and a Ph.D. in
  kinesiology from Texas A&M University; he went on to hold faculty
  appointments at New Mexico State University, the University of New
  Mexico, and The University of Texas at Brownsville before being
  hired to chair the Department of Kinesiology at The University of
  Texas at El Paso; over the course of his career, his work was
  presented at conferences hosted by the American College of Sports
  Medicine and Frontiers of Cardiology, as well as at the
  International Obesity Conference, and he was a member of the ACSM
  and the National Strength and Conditioning Association; and
         WHEREAS, Although he found great fulfillment in his career,
  the foremost priority in Dr. Wittenburg's life was his family;
  devoted to his wife, Cynthia, he took great pride in his children,
  Caleb, Joshua, Matthew, Kristen, and Tara, and in his grandsons,
  Ellis, Jackman, and Wyatt; he was fond of the outdoors and delighted
  in spending time on his ranch in Lometa, and he also took the family
  on frequent trips to New Mexico, where he fell in love with the
  desert and the mountains; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. David Wittenburg enjoyed a life that was rich in
  personal and professional achievements, and he will long be
  remembered with admiration and affection by those he leaves behind;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Dr. David Kirk
  Wittenburg and extend sincere condolences to his relatives and
  friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. David
  Wittenburg.
