R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Brody Matthew Britten graduated as salutatorian of
  his senior class at Groom High School on May 31, 2013; and
         WHEREAS, Earning the title of salutatorian requires not only
  intellect and aptitude, but also four years of dedication to the
  highest academic standards; to attain this coveted distinction, Mr.
  Britten demonstrated a thorough understanding of a wide range of
  subjects, and the rewards of the countless hours he devoted to his
  studies are myriad; and
         WHEREAS, Active in University Interscholastic League
  competition, Mr. Britten qualified for regional in number sense and
  mathematics for three years; he was a member of the National Honor
  Society and coeditor on the journalism staff, and was voted Most
  Likely to Succeed; and
         WHEREAS, A talented athlete as well, Mr. Britten helped his
  school's football team capture the district championship in 2010,
  2011, and 2012 and the bi-district championship in 2010 and 2011; he
  was named Most Valuable Defensive Player in 2013; in area level
  track competition, he placed fifth in the 3,200 meters and fifth as
  a member of the mile relay team; he also excelled in tennis, taking
  the district championship three years in a row, placing fourth at
  regionals, and earning tennis MVP each of the last three years; in
  addition, he received recognition at the Texas A&M summer tennis
  camp, winning the Aggie Heart Award; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Britten worships at St. Mary's Catholic Church,
  where he participates in the LIFE TEEN youth ministry, and he has
  served as treasurer of, and received a scholarship from, the
  Covenant Teen Catholic Youth Organization; after a busy summer,
  during which he will visit his brother in Washington State and
  attend a Steubenville Youth Conference in Arizona and World Youth
  Day in Brazil, he plans to attend Blinn College and Texas A&M
  University to study forensic science; and
         WHEREAS, The son of proud parents Howard and Jan Britten,
  Brody Britten has earned the respect and admiration of teachers and
  classmates alike, and his exceptional scholastic ability, hard
  work, and commitment to excellence have opened the way to limitless
  opportunities for this outstanding young Texan; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby honor Brody Britten,
  salutatorian of the Groom High School Class of 2013, and extend to
  him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Britten as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
