R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to
  a close when Wayne Oscar Stockseth of Corpus Christi passed away on
  March 11, 2013, at the age of 82; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Oscar and Libby Nemec Stockseth, Wayne
  Stockseth was born in Oak Park, Illinois, on October 22, 1930; he
  earned a bachelor's degree in economics from California State
  University--Sacramento in 1953 before joining the United States
  Navy; at the end of his five years of service as a naval aviator, he
  was stationed as a flight instructor at Naval Air Station Corpus
  Christi, and it was there that he met Norma Lee Linkenhoger; the
  pair were soon married, and their 55 years together were further
  enriched by the addition of three sons, Steven, Lee, and Mark; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Stockseth was known for his impressive
  entrepreneurial spirit, and during his notable tenure in the
  private sector, he founded more than 20 businesses; engaged in his
  community as well, he was involved with the United Way and the
  American Cancer Society and served as co-chair of the Jerry Lewis
  Muscular Dystrophy Association Telethon; in addition, he held
  leadership roles with the Corpus Christi Town Club, the Bank of
  America Corpus Christi Advisory Board, the Corpus Christi Chamber
  of Commerce, and the Texas Motor Transportation Association; he was
  also a member of the 20th Senatorial District of the State
  Democratic Executive Committee and the First United Methodist
  Church board; and
         WHEREAS, A strong proponent of education throughout his life,
  Mr. Stockseth received a gubernatorial appointment to serve as a
  regent of the University of North Texas and later acted as chair of
  the UNT Foundation Board; he was made an honorary alumnus of the
  school and a life member of its president's council; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Stockseth also served as a trustee for the
  Corpus Christi Osteopathic Hospital and the Texas College of
  Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth as well as a member of the TCOM
  Foundation and dean's advisory committee, the executive committee
  of the National Osteopathic Foundation, and the investment
  committee of the American Osteopathic Association; in recognition
  of his work, Mr. Stockseth received numerous accolades, including a
  Certificate of Meritorious Service and Founders Medal from TCOM, an
  honorary membership in the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association,
  and a Distinguished Service Certificate and a William D. Miller
  Award from the American Osteopathic Association; moreover, the
  Wayne O. Stockseth Endowed Scholarship is awarded annually to a
  graduating senior of the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine at
  the UNT Health Science Center; and
         WHEREAS, During his leisure time, Mr. Stockseth loved
  travelling the world with his wife; he also bred and raced horses;
  and
         WHEREAS, Wayne Stockseth gave freely of his time and
  expertise to better his community, and he leaves behind a legacy
  that his loved ones can remember with pride; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Wayne Oscar Stockseth
  and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his
  wife, Norma Lee Linkenhoger Stockseth; to his sons, Steven, Lee,
  and Mark Stockseth; to his grandchildren, Samantha, Denton,
  Benjamin, and Lillie; and to his other relatives and friends; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Wayne Oscar
  Stockseth.
