WHEREAS, Rabbi Dov Mandel has faithfully served the spiritual | ||
needs of his community for more than a decade as the leader of | ||
Chabad Lubavitch of Fort Worth and Tarrant County; and | ||
WHEREAS, In September 2002, Rabbi Mandel and his wife, Chana | ||
Tovah, moved to Fort Worth to found a Chabad community center; | ||
around the world, some 3,600 Chabad centers offer Torah classes, | ||
synagogue services, and assistance with Jewish education and | ||
practice; classes offered by Rabbi Mandel at Chabad Lubavitch of | ||
Fort Worth and Tarrant County are open to those of other faiths as | ||
well, helping to bring greater understanding of Judaism; in | ||
addition, he frequently speaks to local groups, including | ||
schoolchildren, about practices and traditions; and | ||
WHEREAS, This distinguished clergyman was born in Brooklyn, | ||
New York, where he was inspired by the teachings of the late Rabbi | ||
Menachem Mendel Schneerson, a modern leader of the centuries-old | ||
Chabad-Lubavitch movement; Rabbi Mandel was also raised in | ||
Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Caracas, Venezuela, and he went on to | ||
study in the Chabad Yeshivas in Morristown, New Jersey, Brunoy, | ||
France, and Jerusalem and Safed, Israel, as well as at Lubavitch | ||
World Headquarters in Brooklyn; ordained by Rabbi Yitzchok Yehuda | ||
Yeroslavski, secretary of the Chabad Beit Din in Israel, Rabbi | ||
Mandel is a certified schochet, and he has also studied the | ||
tradition of Safrut, or Torah calligraphy, and Brit Mila; and | ||
WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure, Rabbi Mandel has | ||
demonstrated a wholehearted commitment to the Jewish community and | ||
to interfaith dialogue, and his wisdom, scholarship, and compassion | ||
have enriched the lives of innumerable people; now, therefore, be | ||
it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas | ||
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby honor Rabbi Dov Mandel for | ||
his exemplary service to Chabad Lubavitch of Fort Worth and Tarrant | ||
County and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be | ||
it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Rabbi Mandel as an expression of high regard by the | ||
Texas House of Representatives. | ||
