WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their memories | ||
of Robert W. Townsley, Jr., of Austin who passed away on September | ||
7, 2010, at the age of 90; and | ||
WHEREAS, Bob Townsley was born in Blanco on March 15, 1920, to | ||
Robert Townsley, Sr., and Nettie Townsley; raised in Austin, he | ||
graduated from Austin High School in 1939; he continued his studies | ||
at North Texas Agricultural College before going to work with the | ||
Texas Highway Department; shortly after the outbreak of World War | ||
II, he answered his nation's call to duty and joined the U.S. Army | ||
Air Corps; and | ||
WHEREAS, After his discharge from the army, Mr. Townsley | ||
returned to work with the Texas Highway Department; during his | ||
distinguished 45 years of service with that agency, he received | ||
numerous promotions, and for 26 years he served as director of the | ||
Motor Vehicle Division; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Townsley and his wife, Alice, enjoyed a | ||
rewarding marriage that spanned 64 years, until her passing on | ||
April 7, 2010; he was blessed with two children, Judy and Steve, as | ||
well as a grandson, Sean, and a great-granddaughter, Helena; and | ||
WHEREAS, Known for his warm personality and good humor, | ||
Mr. Townsley made many friends around the state over the course of | ||
his long tenure with the highway department; in his free time, he | ||
delighted in playing golf, and his passion for the sport led to his | ||
selection as president of the Austin Senior Golf Association; and | ||
WHEREAS, A dedicated public servant and a devoted family man, | ||
Bob Townsley lived a rich and purposeful life, and he will long be | ||
remembered with deep affection by all who knew him; now, therefore, | ||
be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas | ||
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Bob Townsley and | ||
extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his | ||
daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Bobby Fulford; to his grandson, | ||
Sean LaBounty, and his wife, Erin; to his great-granddaughter, | ||
Helena; to his sister and brother-in-law, Mary Jo and Dale Swain; | ||
and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of | ||
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Robert | ||
W. Townsley, Jr. |
