WHEREAS, Sue Melton of Waco was sworn in as a member of the | ||
Texas State Board of Education on January 30, 2013, in Austin; and | ||
WHEREAS, Elected to serve as the District 14 representative, | ||
Ms. Melton has been named vice chair of the board's committee on | ||
instruction; and | ||
WHEREAS, Ms. Melton will draw on 36 years of experience as a | ||
public school teacher in Texas; she has taught in the Ross and West | ||
school districts and received the Golden Apple Award for Teaching | ||
Excellence; Ms. Melton first worked with children through her | ||
church's vacation Bible school and day-care center, and she earned | ||
a bachelor's degree in education from Baylor University; and | ||
WHEREAS, Active in a number of organizations, Ms. Melton has | ||
served as president of the Association of Texas Professional | ||
Educators and has been elected to the second vice president | ||
position in the Waco-McLennan County Retired Teachers Association | ||
and to the state nominating committee in the Texas Retired Teachers | ||
Association; and | ||
WHEREAS, She serves the greater community as the worship | ||
leader and choir director at Primrose Drive Baptist Church and also | ||
volunteers with youth groups; and | ||
WHEREAS, Throughout her career as an educator, Sue Melton has | ||
demonstrated an unwavering commitment to providing young Texans | ||
with a sound academic foundation on which to build, and the | ||
experience and insight she has gained in the classroom will serve | ||
her well in her new post; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas | ||
Legislature hereby congratulate Sue Melton on her election to the | ||
Texas State Board of Education and extend to her sincere best wishes | ||
for a successful tenure; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Ms. Melton as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
House of Representatives. | ||
