BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Subtitle A, Title 9, Health and Safety Code, is | ||
amended by adding Chapter 767 to read as follows: | ||
CHAPTER 767. FIRE SAFETY IN COMMERCIAL BUILDINGS | ||
Sec. 767.001. DEFINITION. In this chapter, "fire alarm" | ||
means a device that detects and sounds an alarm, through audible or | ||
visual means, to indicate the presence of a fire or combustion. | ||
Sec. 767.002. FIRE ALARM REQUIREMENT. The owner of a | ||
commercial building in this state shall ensure that working fire | ||
alarms are installed and maintained in the building in accordance | ||
with the fire alarm requirements of the building code in effect in | ||
the political subdivision in which the commercial building is | ||
located, including performance, location, and power source | ||
requirements. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
