relating to the annual salary paid to judges of county courts at law | ||
in Travis County. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section 25.2292, Government Code, is amended by | ||
amending Subsection (f) and adding Subsection (f-1) to read as | ||
follows: | ||
(f) The judge of a county court at law shall be paid an | ||
annual salary in an amount [ |

salary, including supplements, received by district judges in the | ||
county. For purposes of determining the annual salary of a judge of | ||
a county court at law under this section, the total annual salary | ||
received by a district judge in the county does not include | ||
longevity pay provided under Section 659.0445 or compensation paid | ||
to the presiding criminal judge of Travis County under Section | ||
75.016. | ||
(f-1) The judge of a county court at law who receives a | ||
salary under this section is entitled to longevity pay from the | ||
county if the judge has completed four years of service as an active | ||
judge, as defined by Section 74.041, in Travis County for which | ||
credit is established in the Texas County and District Retirement | ||
System. Longevity pay paid under this subsection is not included as | ||
part of the judge's annual salary for purposes of the salary | ||
limitations provided by Subsection (f). The amount of longevity | ||
pay paid to a judge under this subsection must be equal to the | ||
greater of: | ||
(1) the amount of longevity pay paid to a judge of a | ||
district court in the county who has comparable years of service; or | ||
(2) the amount of longevity pay paid to an employee of | ||
the county who has comparable years of service. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
