relating to the authority of the attorney general to represent | ||
county officials in certain cases. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section 157.9015, Local Government Code, is | ||
amended by adding Subsection (d) to read as follows: | ||
(d) This subsection applies only to a county with a | ||
population of more than one million. If a district or county | ||
attorney declines to represent a county official or employee in a | ||
suit described by Subsection (c), the county official or employee | ||
may request representation from the attorney general, and the | ||
attorney general may offer to represent the county official or | ||
employee. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
