relating to the approval of career and technology courses by the | ||
State Board of Education. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section 28.002(o), Education Code, is amended to | ||
read as follows: | ||
(o) In approving career and technology courses, the State | ||
Board of Education must: | ||
(1) determine that at least 50 percent of the approved | ||
courses are cost-effective for a school district to implement; | ||
(2) approve courses that are offered online or through | ||
an Internet portal maintained by the district or agency; and | ||
(3) update the list of approved courses at least | ||
annually and as needed to provide current and relevant courses. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2021-2022 | ||
school year. | ||
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
