relating to the provision of affordable housing by certain housing | ||
authorities for youth aging out of foster care. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 392, Local Government | ||
Code, is amended by adding Section 392.068 to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 392.068. PRIORITY PLACEMENT FOR CERTAIN YOUTH AGING | ||
OUT OF FOSTER CARE. (a) This section applies only to a housing | ||
authority located in a municipality that contains more than 70 | ||
percent of the population of a county with a population of 1.5 | ||
million or more. | ||
(b) In providing affordable housing, a housing authority to | ||
which this section applies shall give first priority to youth aging | ||
out of foster care who reside in the authority's area of operation. | ||
(c) A housing authority to which this section applies that | ||
manages a waitlist for the provision of affordable housing must | ||
give first priority on the waitlist to youth aging out of foster | ||
care who reside in the authority's area of operation. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
