relating to the staggering of terms of aldermen on the governing | ||
body of a Type A general-law municipality. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section 22.034, Local Government Code, is | ||
amended by adding Subsection (d) to read as follows: | ||
(d) If the aldermen of the governing body of a municipality | ||
are not serving staggered terms of office as provided by Subsection | ||
(b), the governing body by majority vote may provide for the | ||
staggering of terms by requiring the drawing of lots by the | ||
aldermen. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect September 1, 2021. | ||
