A RESOLUTION

Recognizing March 10, 2011, as "World Kidney Day" in

Pennsylvania.

WHEREAS, In Pennsylvania, one in every nine people will be

4

affected by kidney disease; and

5

WHEREAS, Hypertension and diabetes are some of the common

6

precursors to kidney failure; and

7

WHEREAS, National projections show an increase in the number

8

of people suffering from kidney disease as hypertension and

9

diabetes increase in the United States and this Commonwealth;

10

and

11

WHEREAS, A joint initiative of the International Society of

12

Nephrology and the International Federation of Kidney

13

Foundations, World Kidney Day's aim is to raise awareness of the

14

importance of our kidneys to our overall health and to reduce

15

the frequency and impact of kidney disease and its associated

16

health problems worldwide; and

17

WHEREAS, The 2011 campaign will focus on the important link

18

between chronic kidney disease and cardiovascular disease and

the fact that chronic kidney disease is a major risk for

2

cardiovascular disease; therefore be it

3

RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize March 10, 2011, as "World

4

Kidney Day" in Pennsylvania and urge all residents to recognize

5

that renal disease is a serious health threat to this

6

Commonwealth's citizens.
