A RESOLUTION
Commending the Susquehanna County Library and Historical
Society, the Susquehanna County Literacy Program and the
Susquehanna County Commissioners for recognizing the
importance of reading by declaring the month of October 2009
as "Susquehanna County Reads Month" and by sponsoring
appropriate events and activities to promote reading.
WHEREAS, Susquehanna County Reads is a program of the
Susquehanna County Library and Historical Society and the
Susquehanna County Literacy Program and is partially funded by a
grant from the Pennsylvania Humanities Council; and
WHEREAS, Susquehanna County Reads strives to promote reading
for all ages; and
WHEREAS, In their support of Susquehanna County Reads, the
Commissioners of Susquehanna County have declared the month of
October 2009 as "Susquehanna County Reads Month" to encourage
all citizens to participate in literary activities held
throughout October; and
WHEREAS, Susquehanna County Reads offers residents a literary
classic, My Antonia, as the month's recommended reading
selection; and
WHEREAS, Susquehanna County residents will have the
opportunity to participate in events such as "Honoring Our Rural
Heritage" at Salt Springs, a book discussion, movies, an old-
time craft day and a "Barn Bash" to coordinate with the literary
selection of My Antonia; and
WHEREAS, This noteworthy endeavor of the Susquehanna County
Library and Historical Society and the Susquehanna County
Literacy Program will promote reading and the importance of
literary works such as My Antonia; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate commend the Susquehanna County
Library and Historical Society, the Susquehanna County Literacy
Program and the Susquehanna County Commissioners for recognizing
the importance of reading by declaring the month of October 2009
as "Susquehanna County Reads Month" and by sponsoring
appropriate events and activities to promote reading.
