A RESOLUTION

Designating the week of October 21 through 27 as "National

Chemistry Week" in Pennsylvania.

WHEREAS, "National Chemistry Week" is an annual event

4

designed to raise awareness of the importance of chemistry in

5

everyday life and 2012 marks the 25th anniversary of "National

6

Chemistry Week"; and

7

WHEREAS, The American Chemical Society coordinates the week

8

each year and it is designed to be a community-based program

9

that unites the local sections of the society with businesses,

10

schools and individuals; and

11

WHEREAS, More than 96% of all manufactured goods are directly

12

touched by the business of chemistry, making this industry an

13

essential part of every facet of this nation's economy; and

14

WHEREAS, The business of chemistry is a significant

15

contributor to the economy of this Commonwealth, employing

nearly 47,000 people; and

2

WHEREAS, This year, the spotlight is on nanotechnology and

3

the American Chemical Society is partnering with the Nanoscale

4

Informal Science Education Network; and

5

WHEREAS, The evolving science of chemistry is essential to

6

providing alternative energy, enhanced energy conservation,

7

potable drinking water, medicines, protective clothing for

8

emergency, police and military personnel and housing and

9

transportation as well as other necessities; therefore be it

10

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the

11

week of October 21 through 27 as "National Chemistry Week" in

12

Pennsylvania.
