| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Commemorating the week of September 20 through 24, 2010, as |
2 | "Rehabilitation Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania. |
3 | WHEREAS, National Rehabilitation Awareness Week is to be |
4 | celebrated this year during the week of September 19 through 25, |
5 | 2010; and |
6 | WHEREAS, The National Rehabilitation Awareness Foundation, |
7 | sponsor of National Rehabilitation Awareness Week, was |
8 | established by Allied Services in 1996 and is headquartered in |
9 | Scranton; and |
10 | WHEREAS, The foundation educates people about the benefits |
11 | and impact of rehabilitation, develops programs which aim to |
12 | increase opportunities for the nearly 50 million Americans with |
13 | disabilities and helps those who are disabled live to their |
14 | fullest potential through rehabilitation; and |

1 | WHEREAS, A main initiative of the foundation is to elevate |
2 | the prominence of National Rehabilitation Awareness Week; and |
3 | WHEREAS, Rehabilitation services, such as those that are |
4 | provided at the Susquehanna Health Rehabilitation Center in the |
5 | greater Williamsport area, have enhanced the capabilities of |
6 | people with disabilities throughout this Commonwealth; and |
7 | WHEREAS, The Susquehanna Health Rehabilitation Center has |
8 | been northeastern and central Pennsylvania's regional leader in |
9 | physical rehabilitation for 41 years; and |
10 | WHEREAS, The center officially opened in October 1969, but |
11 | rehabilitation services in Williamsport actually began in 1957 |
12 | when Dr. Robert Stevens, a specialist in physical medicine and |
13 | rehabilitation, came to Williamsport Hospital; and |
14 | WHEREAS, The center currently provides rehabilitation |
15 | services at Williamsport Hospital, inpatient skilled nursing |
16 | facility services at Muncy Valley Hospital and outpatient |
17 | services at Divine Providence Hospital, the Costello Center, |
18 | Williamsport Hospital, Muncy Valley Hospital and the East |
19 | Lycoming YMCA; therefore be it |
20 | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commemorate the |
21 | week of September 20 through 24, 2010, as "Rehabilitation |
22 | Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania. |
