A RESOLUTION

Commemorating the 225th anniversary of the creation of West

2

Hanover Township, Dauphin County.

3

WHEREAS, The area now known as West Hanover Township, Dauphin

4

County, was originally a part of Lancaster County and Paxton

5

Township; and

6

WHEREAS, Due to the large size of Paxton Township and the

7

distance to Lancaster, the citizens were inconvenienced by

8

administrative difficulties and eventually petitioned the court

9

of Lancaster County to form a smaller, separate township; and

10

WHEREAS, In February of 1785, by order of Judge Hubely of the

11

court of Lancaster County, West Hanover Township was created;

12

and

13

WHEREAS, A month after the creation of West Hanover Township,

14

Dauphin County was created; and

WHEREAS, West Hanover Township is known for its rich history

2

which includes the adoption of the Hanover Resolves, the

3

earliest known resolutions for independence from England; and

4

WHEREAS, The citizens of West Hanover Township will celebrate

5

the 225th anniversary of the creation of the township by holding

6

events beginning on March 20, 2010, such as a breakfast

7

featuring Benjamin Franklin at Fire Company No. 1; therefore be

8

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commemorate the

10

225th anniversary of the creation of West Hanover Township,

11

Dauphin County.
