| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to extend special recognition to Lieutenant Tom Ostendarp, a member of the Mariemont Police Department, on receiving an Award of Merit for Valor; and |
| WHEREAS, Tom Ostendarp is, indeed, deserving of high praise, for he has demonstrated an exceptional presence of mind and a degree of professionalism of which he can be justly proud. Responding to the call of a possible drowning on June 11, 2013, he arrived at the Little Miami River with Deputy Nick Hoevel of the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, and he reacted quickly and capably, displaying humanitarian concern and selfless initiative in a crisis situation by braving shoulder-deep water and strong currents in an attempt to locate and rescue two swimming victims; and |
| WHEREAS, Tom Ostendarp is certainly to be commended for his valiant actions, and he recently received an Award of Merit for Valor, as well as a Certificate of Recognition from the Village of Mariemont. His quick thinking, skill, and immediate action are worthy of acknowledgement, and we applaud him on his tremendous efforts; and |
| WHEREAS, At a time when many people are content to take a passive role in life, Tom Ostendarp has chosen a vocation through which he has often risked his own safety to ensure the well-being of his fellow citizens. His enthusiasm and devotion to duty have earned him the respect and gratitude of his peers and of the community he has so capably served; therefore be it |
| RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, honor Lieutenant Tom Ostendarp for his heroism and salute him as an outstanding Ohio citizen; and be it further |
| RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to Lieutenant Tom Ostendarp. |
