| Recognizing Ohio Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month, May 2013. |
| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to recognize May 2013 as Ohio Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month; and |
| WHEREAS, Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease in which a defective gene causes the body to produce abnormally thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs, leading to dangerous lung infections, and obstructs the pancreas, blocking natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food. Some 30,000 children and adults in the United States have CF, although more than 10 million additional Americans are symptomless carriers of the defective CF gene, and about 1,000 new cases of cystic fibrosis are diagnosed each year; and |
| WHEREAS, Although the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has been pursuing a cure and advocating for patients since 1955, greater awareness and understanding of the disease is needed. As part of this effort, Ohio Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month was declared by the Ohio General Assembly in 2005; and |
| WHEREAS, Ohio Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month can undoubtedly be a benefit to those who suffer from CF, as well as to the families and friends of these individuals, and it can offer them help, support, and encouragement in the fight against this disease; therefore be it |
| RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, recognize May 2013 as Ohio Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month; and be it further |
| RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit duly authenticated copies of this Resolution to the Central Ohio Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and to the news media of Ohio. |
