          when  printed  to  be committed to the Committee on Codes -- committee
          discharged, bill amended, ordered reprinted as amended and recommitted
          to said committee

        AN ACT to amend the criminal procedure  law,  in  relation  to  granting
          peace  officer status to certain security officers employed by Roches-
          ter Regional Health

          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section  1.  Section  2.10 of the criminal procedure law is amended by
     2  adding a new subdivision 87 to read as follows:
     3    87. Officers and members of the security force employed  by  Rochester
     4  Regional  Health,  within  the  grounds  or  premises owned or under the
     5  supervision, administration, or control  of  Rochester  Regional  Health
     6  located  on  the  campuses  and  at  the facilities of Rochester General
     7  Hospital and Unity Hospital, shall have the powers  of  peace  officers,
     8  and  beyond  such  geographic  area  upon  the  request of the chief law
     9  enforcement officer of the local law enforcement  jurisdiction  or  such
    10  chief  law enforcement officer's designee, for the purpose of transport-
    11  ing an individual who has  been  arrested  in  accordance  with  section
    12  140.27  of  this  chapter  and where no local law enforcement officer is
    13  available for transporting such individual  in  a  timely  manner.  Such
    14  peace officers shall only have the powers listed in paragraphs (a), (b),
    15  (c),  (d), (e), and (h) of subdivision one of section 2.20 of this arti-
    16  cle, and the power to detain an individual for a  reasonable  period  of
    17  time  while  awaiting the arrival of law enforcement, provided that such
    18  peace officer has actual knowledge, or probable cause to  believe,  that
    19  such individual has committed an offense; provided however, that nothing
    20  in  this subdivision shall be deemed to authorize such officer to carry,
    21  possess, repair or dispose of a firearm unless the  appropriate  license
    22  therefor has been issued pursuant to section 400.00 of the penal law.
    23    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
