       AN ACT to amend the tax law, in relation to enacting "Averyana's law"
         THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
       BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
    1    Section  1.  This  act  shall be known and may be cited as "Averyana's
    2  law".
    3    S 2. Section 606 of the tax law is amended by adding a new  subsection
    4  (uu) to read as follows:
    5    (UU)  CREDIT  FOR INSTALLATION OF SMOKE DETECTORS.  ANY RESIDENT OWNER
    6  OF REAL PROPERTY AS DEFINED IN SECTION ONE HUNDRED TWO OF THE REAL PROP-
    7  ERTY TAX LAW SHALL BE ALLOWED A CREDIT AGAINST THE TAX OTHERWISE IMPOSED
    8  UNDER THIS ARTICLE IN AN AMOUNT EQUAL TO  THE  COST  OF  PURCHASING  AND
    9  INSTALLING SMOKE DETECTORS IN HIS OR HER RESIDENCE.
   10    S 3. This act shall take effect immediately and shall apply to taxable
   11  years beginning on or after January 1, 2012.
