          printed to be committed to the  Committee  on  Elections  --  reported
          favorably  from  said  committee  and  committed  to  the Committee on
          Finance -- committee discharged, bill amended,  ordered  reprinted  as
          amended and recommitted to said committee

        AN  ACT  to amend the election law, in relation to declining party nomi-
          nations after primary elections

          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section  1.  Section  6-158 of the election law is amended by adding a
     2  new subdivision 15 to read as follows:
     3    15. (a) A person who has been designated  for  nomination  for  public
     4  office  by  any party or parties and who thereafter does not receive one
     5  or more such nominations may decline any nomination or  nominations  for
     6  such  office  by  filing a certificate of declination not later than the
     7  fifteenth day after the primary election.
     8    (b) A certificate to fill  a vacancy by declination pursuant  to  this
     9  subdivision  shall be filed not later than twenty days after such decli-
    10  nation has been filed.
    11    § 2. This act shall take effect on the first of January next  succeed-
    12  ing the date on which it shall have become a law.
