        Introduced by Sen. GOUNARDES -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
          printed to be committed to the Committee on Finance
        AN  ACT  to  establish  a commission to study certain battles and events
          which were part of the Revolutionary War in New  York;  and  providing
          for the repeal of such provisions upon the expiration thereof
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
     1    Section 1. A commission, to be known as the Revolutionary War  in  New
     2  York  commission, is hereby created to study all of the different events
     3  and battles that occurred in New York during the Revolutionary War peri-
     4  od, including, but not limited to the Battle of Brooklyn, the Battles of
     5  Saratoga, the capture and siege of Fort Ticonderoga, the  occupation  of
     6  New York by the British and the British Prison ships in New York Harbor.
     7  The study will include methods to promote and educate individuals on the
     8  historical importance of the Revolutionary War in New York.
     9    §  2.  The commission shall be composed of thirteen members, appointed
    10  as follows: three members shall  be  appointed  by  the  governor;  four
    11  members  shall  be  appointed by the speaker of the assembly; one member
    12  shall be appointed by the minority leader of the assembly; four  members
    13  shall  be  appointed  by  the temporary president of the senate; and one
    14  member shall be appointed by the minority leader of the senate.
    15    § 3. The commission shall examine and review the historical importance
    16  of the Revolutionary War in New York and  conduct  a  study  that  would
    17  analyze how to best foster promotion of this historical event.
    18    §  4. The commission shall report its findings, conclusions and recom-
    19  mendations to the governor and the legislature no later than  two  years
    20  after the effective date of this act.
    21    § 5. This act shall take effect immediately and shall remain in effect
    22  until two years after it shall have become a law when upon such date the
    23  provisions of this act shall be deemed repealed.
