LAVALLE -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Higher Education AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to notification of certain parental rights under the federal family educational rights and privacy act The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. The education law is amended by adding a new section 225-a 2 to read as follows: 3 § 225-a. Parental notification of certain rights. 1. Colleges shall 4 notify parents annually of their rights under 20 U.S.C. § 1232g, includ- 5 ing, but not limited to, the right of a student eighteen years of age or 6 older to designate a parent or guardian as someone who can request the 7 student's records from the college. 8 2. Colleges shall notify parents of their rights under 20 U.S.C. § 9 1232g before the start of the academic year. 10 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
