        CONGRATULATING   Ruth   Carr   Tompkins  upon  the
        occasion of celebrating her 100th Birthday

  WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative  Body  to  commemorate
and  recognize  certain  milestones celebrated by citizens of this great
Empire State; and

  WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and  knowledge
to  the  increasingly  active  roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a  vital  part  of,  and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and

  WHEREAS,  Attendant  to  such  concern,  and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this  Legislative  Body  is  justly  proud  to
congratulate  Ruth Carr Tompkins upon the occasion of her 100th Birthday
to be celebrated on Friday, November 22, 2024; and

  WHEREAS, Ruth Carr Tompkins has experienced the incredible joys  and
sorrows  characteristic of, and reserved for, those with the stamina and
courage to savor a full life; and

  WHEREAS, Ruth Carr was born to Arthur and Rachel Carr in  Coxsackie,
New  York,  on  November  22, 1924; she and her two sisters grew up on a
farm in New Baltimore, New York;  until  high  school,  she  attended  a
one-room schoolhouse and graduated from Coxsackie High School at the age
of 16; and

  WHEREAS,  During  World  War II, Ruth Carr worked as a secretary for
General Electric (GE) in Schenectady, residing in a boarding  house  and
commuting home on the train every weekend; and

  WHEREAS,  On  July 14, 1946, Ruth Carr began her 64-year marriage to
Floyd Tompkins; employed as a Senior Claims Examiner for  the  New  York
State  Insurance  Fund  in Albany, she dedicated 30 years to the company
before her retirement in 1983; and

  WHEREAS, Ruth Carr Tompkins resided in  Ravena,  New  York,  for  53
years  prior  to  moving Greenville Country Estates in 1999; she remains
quite active  in  community  organizations  in  Ravena  and  Greenville,
continuing  to  organize  outings  for  residents  of Greenville Country
Estates; and

  WHEREAS, With her zest for life, this  exceptional  centenarian  has
inspired and enhanced the lives of her family and friends; she has truly
enriched those around her through her joyous and sincere love for others
and  through  the  profound  charm  and  wisdom  which  come only from a
fullness of years; and

  WHEREAS, It is the intent  of  this  Legislative  Body  to  publicly
recognize  those  who  have  reached  such a remarkable age and who have
witnessed and celebrated the  innovations,  cultural  developments,  and
magnificent  achievements  of this Nation during the last century, while

themselves contributing to the  growth  and  excellence  of  this  great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Ruth Carr Tompkins upon the  occasion  of  celebrating  her
100th Birthday; and be it further

  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Ruth Carr Tompkins.
