Assembly Resolution No. 870 BY: M. of A. Buttenschon COMMEMORATING the 90th Anniversary of Indium Corporation, on March 13, 2024 WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those businesses within the State of New York which distinguish themselves through outstanding professional behavior, corporate innovation, and enduring commitment to the community; and WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the 90th Anniversary of Indium Corporation, on Wednesday, March 13, 2024; and WHEREAS, Indium Corporation is a global leader in materials science and electronics assembly solutions; the company's innovative products, especially its advanced soldering solutions, are found in many common consumer electronics and high-reliability technologies such as electric vehicles, mobile devices, life-saving medical devices, and emerging 5G technology, among many other applications; and WHEREAS, Indium Corporation was founded in 1934 by Dr. William S. Murray, operating from his garage at 805 Watson Place in Utica, New York, where he was instrumental in identifying and enabling the first commercially viable applications for indium metal; and WHEREAS, Today, the company is a premier materials refiner, smelter, manufacturer, and supplier to the global electronics, semiconductor, thin-film, and thermal management markets with local facilities in Utica, Clinton, Rome, and New Hartford, in addition to facilities in China, Germany, India, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, and the United Kingdom; and WHEREAS, Indium Corporation's present-day Chief Operating Officer and President, Rob Berntson, states of the company regarding this esteemed milestone: "we are committed to giving back to our community, not only through charitable donations, but by developing our local and regional workforce to meet the evolving demands of the advanced manufacturing and semiconductor industries," serving as a testament to what it means to be a business dedicated to the principles of growth, community, and excellence; and WHEREAS, Further impacting their community and beyond, Indium Corporation impacts the lives of more than 5,000 students annually through STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) outreach partnerships with schools, universities, and community organizations; inaugurated in 2012, the company also offers an award-winning college internship program which has launched the careers of over 100 college students in STEM fields; and WHEREAS, Indium Corporation recently celebrated the first graduates of its pioneering apprenticeship program which supports those employees learning new skills and pursuing degree programs; the initiative also works with military veterans to make successful transitions to private sector careers; and WHEREAS, Going above and beyond the ideals of service, Indium Corporation proudly supports many charitable and quality-of-life organizations throughout the community, including the American Red Cross, Stuff the Bus, ICAN, United Way, Support Our Vets, and the American Heart Association; since just 2021, the company and its leaders have been honored by the Oneida County History Center, YWCA, MACNY, Mohawk Valley Alliance of Chambers of Commerce, and the Genesis Group; and WHEREAS, The success of Indium Corporation is in direct correlation to the efforts of its dedicated leadership and staff, whose involvement is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the businesses and the communities they serve; and WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body acknowledges this exceptional business, its contributions to the local and state economies, and its vibrant role in improving the quality of life in its community, fully confident it will continue to enjoy the same sparkling successes it has experienced thus far; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to commemorate the 90th Anniversary of Indium Corporation; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Ross Berntson, President and COO of Indium Corporation.
