        MOURNING   the   death   of   John   F.   McArdle,
        distinguished  law  enforcement   officer,   beloved
        family man, and devoted member of his community

  WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens  of  the  State  of  New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and

  WHEREAS, John F. McArdle of Carmel, New  York,  died  on  Wednesday,
February 22, 2023, at the age of 68; and

  WHEREAS, John F. McArdle distinguished himself in his profession and
by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
his community; and

  WHEREAS, Beginning a long and decorated career in law enforcement in
1978,  John  F.  McArdle  first  served  as  a  Corrections  Officer  at
Greenhaven Correctional in Stormville, New York; and

  WHEREAS, Later working his way up within the New  York  City  Police
Department  (NYPD),  John  F.  McArdle  served  in the Bronx Task Force,
Emergency Services Unit (ESU), ESU Tactical Apprehension Team  (A-TEAM),
and Federal Emergency Management (FEMA) New York Task Force 1; and

  WHEREAS,  Beginning  his retirement in July of 2001, John F. McArdle
selflessly returned to service immediately  following  the  World  Trade
Center attacks, and was assigned as the On Scene Coordinator for the ESU
Search,   Rescue,   and   Recovery   operations;  his  gracious  efforts
undoubtedly left a positive impact on countless families  and  lives  of
those affected by this tragedy; and

  WHEREAS,  The  recipient  of  numerous awards and accolades, John F.
McArdle is the 90th recipient of the NYPD Honor Legion Medal  of  Valor;
his  other  honors  include  the  Centurion Foundation Award, NYC Police
Foundation Award for Excellence, 6  Commendations  from  various  Police
Commissioners,  12  Meritorious  Police Duty Awards, 10 Excellent Police
Duty Awards, and 1 Emergency Medical Service Commendation Award; and

  WHEREAS, In his retirement, John F. McArdle volunteered his time  to
various  organizations  including  HEART  9/11 group, National Fraternal
Order of Police (FOP), New York FOP,  Retired  Lieutenants  Association,
and Retired Emergency Men Association (REMA); and

  WHEREAS,  John F. McArdle's commitment to excellence, and his spirit
of humanity, carried over  into  all  fields  of  enterprise,  including
charitable and civic endeavors; and

  WHEREAS,  Giving  of  his time to his community, John F. McArdle was
Vice President of the Stephen P. Driscoll Memorial Lodge No. 704;  while
there,  he assisted in the development and implementation of the Members
Assistance Program called Cops 4 Cops; and

  WHEREAS, Although he loved his  career  and  community  involvement,
John  F.    McArdle  was most proud of his family; he loved being a dad,
husband, and grandfather; and

  WHEREAS,  In  his  free  time,  John  F. McArdle enjoyed cooking for
friends and family, going fishing, and gardening; and

  WHEREAS, John F. McArdle is survived by his cherished wife, Barbara;
three  beloved  daughters,  Jackie,  Kerri,  and  Kim,  and  his  adored
grandson, Chase; and

  WHEREAS,  Armed  with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, John F. McArdle leaves  behind  a  legacy  which  will  long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death  of  John  F.  McArdle,  distinguished  law  enforcement
officer, beloved family man, and devoted member of his community; and be
it further

  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of John F. McArdle.
