Assembly Resolution No. 41 BY: M. of A. Palmesano COMMEMORATING the 225th Anniversary of the Steuben County Sheriff's Office WHEREAS, The quality of life in New York State is largely reflective of the commitment and dedication demonstrated by members of the agencies which serve to protect, preserve and maintain public order; and WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and honor those distinguished citizens who devote their life's work and purpose to public service, contributing to the care and welfare of the citizens of the State of New York; and WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the 225th Anniversary of the Steuben County Sheriff's Office; in honor of this auspicious occasion, all members of the Sheriff's Office will wear a 225th Anniversary commemorative badge designed by Undersheriff John McNelis; and WHEREAS, In 1796, the Steuben County Sherriff's Office was established in the New York State Constitution with William Dunn at the helm; throughout its storied history, numerous sheriffs have led the Department including the longest serving Sheriff, Jack Lisi who served from 1970-1987, and current Sheriff, Jim Allard; and WHEREAS, From 1796-1873, the Steuben County Sheriff's Office was the sole and only law enforcement agency in the County; today, the Office is a diverse organization providing service in Law Enforcement, Corrections, Civil, Court Security, School Safety and Navigation Safety; and WHEREAS, For over two centuries, the Steuben County Sheriff's Office has remained true to its mission of keeping the peace by providing public safety and law enforcement services to the citizens of Steuben County; and WHEREAS, The tradition of altruistic public service, heroism and leadership embodied by the Steuben County Sheriff's Office is of such magnitude as to be worthy of special, statewide recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to commemorate the 225th Anniversary of the Steuben County Sheriff's Office; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Sheriff James L. Allard, Steuben County Sherriff's Office.
