Senate Resolution No. 3260 BY: Senator BRESLIN COMMENDING James H. Miner posthumously upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition by Rensselaer County at its Honor a Deceased Veteran Ceremony on September 14, 2020 WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York, who have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace in peacetime, deserve a special salute; and WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend James Howard Miner posthumously upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition by Rensselaer County at its Honor a Deceased Veteran Ceremony on Monday, September 14, 2020; and WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Hoosick Falls, New York, James "Dubby" Jim Miner was born on April 6, 1940, in Ticonderoga, New York, to Charles and Dorothy (Barber) Miner; and WHEREAS, He was a graduate of the Hoosick Falls (Wood Memorial) High School, Class of 1957, and then a student for two years at Hudson Valley Community College; and WHEREAS, On September 23, 1963, in Albany, New York, James H. Miner enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country as a SP4 E-4 during the Vietnam War; and WHEREAS, For his courageous military service, James H. Miner was awarded the Marksman (Rifle M-1, M-14) and a Good Conduct Medal; and WHEREAS, Upon the completion of his military service on September 22, 1969, James H. Miner returned to his beloved Hoosick Falls and was employed with several companies including: Haynes Ford for 20 years as a Salesperson/Sales Manager; Wood Flong Corporation; co-Owner of M&M Wine & Liquor Store in Greenwich, New York; a Truck Manager at Morrison Chevrolet in Bennington, Vermont; and for 30 years as a Special Events Bartender; and WHEREAS, Devoted to both his fellow veterans and community, James H. Miner was a Hoosick Falls Central School District Board member for 19 years; President of the local union, Wood Flong Corporation; past Treasurer, Hoosick Falls Little League; Board member and Golf & Handicap Chairman, Hoosick Falls Country Club; Lifetime member of St. Stanislaus Polish Hall; President for two years, Hoosick Falls Kiwanis Club; and a member of the American Legion; and WHEREAS, James H. Miner spent many of his last years seeing America in his motor home accompanied by his love of 27 years, Gale E. Leva; and WHEREAS, In addition to traveling, James H. Miner enjoyed boating, golf and fishing; and WHEREAS, Above all, James H. Miner was very proud of his three children: Brett (Natalie), Jason (Ami), and Cherie Miner; the three children he helped raise, Joseph, Nicole (Martin) and Charlie Leva; he also treasured his seven grandchildren: David, Chad, Timothy, Zachary, Samantha, Madison and Asher; and the four grandchildren he helped raise: Elizabeth, Janessa, Alyssa and Silas Leva; and WHEREAS, In addition to Gale, and his children and grandchildren, James H. Miner is survived by many nieces and nephews; and WHEREAS, James H. Miner died on April 11, 2017, at the age of 77, and is buried in the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, New York; and WHEREAS, Having exhibited his patriotism both at home and abroad, James H. Miner demonstrated his love for his country and merits forevermore, the highest respect of this State and Nation; and WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to commend James H. Miner posthumously upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition by Rensselaer County at its Honor a Deceased Veteran Ceremony on September 14, 2020; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to the family of James H. Miner.
