Senate Resolution No. 3081 BY: Senator PARKER MOURNING the death of Margaret Boyce, distinguished citizen and devoted member of her community WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great State of New York; and WHEREAS, Margaret Boyce of Brooklyn, New York, died on Monday, February 24, 2020, at the age of 76; and WHEREAS, Margaret Lois Boyce was born Margaret Lois Young on August 30, 1943, in Brooklyn, New York; she was the 9th of 15 children born to Frank and Beatrice Young who migrated from Norfolk, Virginia, in search of more opportunities for their expanding family; and WHEREAS, Margaret, the first of her siblings born in New York City, was educated in the New York Public School System, attending P.S. 70, J.H.S. 35 and graduating from Franklin K. Lane High School, Class of 1961; and WHEREAS, She entered the work force as a typist at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and worked there until 1970; and WHEREAS, Margaret met Fitzgerald (Gerald) Boyce in 1963, and married him in 1966; together, they were the proud parents of three sons, Fitzgerald II, Ryan, and Neil; the couple was married for over 51 years until Gerald's passing in 2018; and WHEREAS, In 1979, Margaret Boyce returned to the work force, accepting a position with the New York Police Department as a Police Communications Technician; she worked in various capacities including as a 911 operator for many years and later as a Payroll Aministrator; and WHEREAS, On September 11, 2001, Margaret Boyce went back on the floor as a 911 operator to field emergency calls; and WHEREAS, After many years of exemplary service and commendations, Margaret Boyce retired in 2005; her retired life began the "Nana years" as the Boyce's became full-time grandparents; they traveled the country and the Caribbean, and were also present at many, if not all, of their grandchildrens' events; and WHEREAS, Margaret Boyce's commitment to excellence, and her spirit of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including charitable and civic endeavors; and WHEREAS, When not at the grandkids' events, Margaret Boyce was a fixture at both St. Gabriel's Senior Center and Fenimore St. Senior Center, participating as a member of their dance team as well as their annual shows; and WHEREAS, Margaret Boyce was also an active member of The Church of The Evangel, serving on the budget committee and, when the time came, helping to find a new minister; and WHEREAS, Predeceased by her parents, Frank and Beatrice Young; eight siblings, Atressa, Andrew, Vivian, Celia, Roger, Wanda, Glenn and Lyle; and her husband, Gerald; Margaret Boyce is survived by her three sons, Fitzgerald II (Roshawn), Ryan (Jacqueline) and Neil (Christina); eight grandchildren, Shannon, Salah, Sadyah, Yasirah, Amani, Niles, Nathan and Nia; six siblings, Frankie, Donald, Herbert (Barnetta), Bernie (Carol), Norma (Harold) and Alvin; and two sisters-in-law, Gloria and Daryle; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends; and WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of compassion, Margaret Boyce leaves behind a legacy which will long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all she served and befriended; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to mourn the death of Margaret Boyce, distinguished citizen and devoted member of her community; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to the family of Margaret Boyce.
