Senate Resolution No. 3070 BY: Senator MONTGOMERY COMMENDING Reverend Dr. Susie Elliot upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Faith Leader Award by the Neighborhood Technical Assistance Clinic on June 9, 2020 WHEREAS, The character and richness of religious and community life in this noble Empire State is nourished and fulfilled through the faithful concern and selfless devotion of those who would commit their energies and purpose to the ministry of others; and WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to bring full recognition and just tribute to those individuals who distinguish themselves and the ministry through their unremitting commitment and preeminence of service; and WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Reverend Dr. Susie Elliott upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Faith Leader Award by the Neighborhood Technical Assistance Clinic to be celebrated at its 13th Annual Gala, A Salute to New York City's Nonprofits and the Neighborhoods They Serve, on Tuesday, June 9, 2020, at Giando on the Water, Brooklyn, New York; and WHEREAS, The Neighborhood Technical Assistance Clinic (NTAC) is a strategic partner and advisor to philanthropists, foundations, government and political entities, public institutions, grassroots nonprofit organizations, and faith-based institutions wishing to improve their programs and organizational effectiveness in addressing the needs of low-income and service-starved communities; and WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Susie Elliott is co-Pastor along with her daughter, Reverend Damele Elliottt Collier of the Mt. Paran Baptist Church in Brooklyn; and WHEREAS, Through her leadership, Mt. Paran Baptist Church has established several innovative programs that minister to the spiritual and social needs of her parishioners and members of the surrounding communities; and WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Susie Elliottt holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Home Economics and Science from Shaw University, and a Master's degree in Guidance and Counseling from Brooklyn College; and WHEREAS, Reverend Susie, as she is affectionately called, has also studied at the New York Theological Seminary; after 25 years, she is a retired Counselor in the New York Public School System; and WHEREAS, Some of Reverend Dr. Susie Elliottt's organizational affiliations include: Founder of the Mother/Daughters of Zion; Founder and former Director of Project Hope; and former Chairperson of the Hunger Committee of the Brooklyn Council of Churches, of which she is now its President; and WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individual for the benefit of others which Reverend Susie Elliott has displayed throughout her life; and WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to commend Reverend Dr. Susie Elliott upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Faith Leader Award by the Neighborhood Technical Assistance Clinic; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Reverend Dr. Susie Elliott.
