Senate Resolution No. 2716 BY: Senator HARCKHAM MOURNING the death of Audrey Rose Harlow, renowned educator, distinguished citizen and devoted member of her community WHEREAS, It is with profound sorrow that this Legislative Body, representing the people of the State of New York, is moved this day to pay tribute to an eminent woman of indomitable faith and dedication whose public service and countless accomplishments will forever stand as a paradigm and inspiration for others; and WHEREAS, Audrey Rose Harlow died on October 12, 2019, at the age of 85; and WHEREAS, The daughter of Arthur and Julia (Keeler) Rose, Audrey Rose Harlow was born and raised in White Plains, New York; she attended White Plains schools until 1949, when the family moved to Elmsford, New York; and WHEREAS, A 1951 graduate of Alexander Hamilton High School, Audrey Rose Harlow went on to earn both her Bachelor of Science degree and Master of Science degree from the State University of New York at New Paltz; and WHEREAS, Audrey Rose Harlow distinguished herself in her profession and by her sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of her community; and WHEREAS, With an illustrious career in education which traversed nearly five decades, Audrey Rose Harlow spent 48 years with the Yorktown Central School District where she taught both primary and intermediate grades, and was selected to be an Instructional Specialist to assist new teachers; and WHEREAS, Audrey Rose Harlow lived and worked in Yorktown Heights, New York, until she and her husband, Ed, retired and moved to Fearrington Village, North Carolina in 2008; and WHEREAS, Audrey Rose Harlow's commitment to excellence, and her spirit of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including charitable and civic endeavors; she was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Mount Kisco, New York, before becoming a member of the Congregation at Duke University Chapel where she participated in the Local Missions' Committee and the Staff-Parish Relations Committee; and WHEREAS, Predeceased by her first husband, Douglas, Audrey Rose Harlow is survived by her husband, Ed; her two children, James and Carolyn; and six grandchildren, David, Beth, Ellen, Katelyn, Ethan and Aaron; and WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of compassion, Audrey Rose Harlow leaves behind a legacy which will long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all she served and befriended; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to mourn the death of Audrey Rose Harlow, renowned educator, distinguished citizen and devoted member of her community; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to the family of Audrey Rose Harlow.
