Senate Resolution No. 2403 BY: Senator BROOKS COMMEMORATING the 50th Anniversary of the Imperial Diner of Freeport, New York WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to recognize and acknowledge those individuals and businesses within our midst who have made significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain extraordinary individuals and businesses it wishes to recognize for their valued contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among us all; and WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Imperial Diner of Freeport, New York, to be celebrated with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Wednesday, May 11, 2022; and WHEREAS, The Imperial Diner first opened its doors to the public on March 15, 1972, by Kostaf Moustakas who worked 14-hour days to support his family; later, his wife, Georgia joined the business, helping him to make it cornerstone of the Freeport community, loved and enjoyed by residents and visitors to the area alike; and WHEREAS, Upon the death of Kostaf Moustakas in 1985, his children, Billy who was 14-years-old, and his daughter, Lana, who was 13-years-old, began working with their mother; in 2003, the family renovated the diner, and 10 years later, Georgia passed away; and WHEREAS, Today, Billy Moustakas and Lana Manetto continue to run the Imperial Diner together, providing the same excellent food, service and atmosphere as their father and mother did for so long; and WHEREAS, In 2015, Billy Moustakas and Lana Manetto purchased the building next door allowing them to add parking and a curbside pick-up service, thereby, establishing Georgia Square in honor of their beloved mother; and WHEREAS, The success of the Imperial Diner is in direct correlation to the efforts of its dedicated owners, customers and friends, whose involvement is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the business and the community it serves; and WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body commends the Imperial Diner for its excellence and for its commitment and contributions to the community it has so ably served for the past 50 years; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Imperial Diner of Freeport, New York; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Billy Moustakas and Lana Manetto, Owners, Imperial Diner.
