Senate Resolution No. 979 BY: Senator METZGER COMMENDING Cassandra Williams upon the occasion of her selection as a member of the 2019 U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Individual All-Academic Team WHEREAS, This Legislative Body takes pleasure in honoring talented collegiate athletes who distinguish themselves and their community through outstanding academic and athletic performance; and WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical development of the young adults of this State, preparing them for the future by instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of fair play and competition; and WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Cassandra Williams upon the occasion of her selection as a member of the 2019 U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Individual All-Academic Team; and WHEREAS, In order to qualify for this auspicious honor, Cassandra Williams recorded a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or more, while also finishing in the top 25% of her respective regional championship meet; and WHEREAS, A sophomore majoring in math, Cassandra Williams qualified for the NCAA National Championships after finishing the Atlantic Region meet 23rd overall; her outstanding performance helped the Hawks secure an 11th place team finish; and WHEREAS, This exceptional student-athlete finished out the year earning All-Atlantic Region and Third-Team All-Conference honors; she was also named the SUNYAC Elite 20 Cross Country Female Athlete of the Year; and WHEREAS, Academically and athletically, Cassandra Williams has distinguished herself as a young woman of superlative ability, talent, and maturity, establishing standards of excellence and achievement, purposefulness of life, and responsibility rarely achieved in youthful years; and WHEREAS, An outstanding role model for her fellow students, Cassandra Williams has brought honor to her family, school, and community; and WHEREAS, Cassandra Williams may stand with pride in her achievements, experiencing the satisfaction of her labors and the joy of her accomplishments, eager to face the challenge of new experiences as she continues her education; and WHEREAS, Cassandra Williams represents the potential inherent in our most precious resource, our young adults; this Legislative Body is pleased to honor this young woman, recognizing her achievements and the promise of her future; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to commend Cassandra Williams upon the occasion of her selection as a member of the 2019 U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Individual All-Academic Team; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Cassandra Williams.
