Senate Resolution No. 776

        COMMENDING Clinton J. Winnie posthumously upon the
        occasion  of his designation for special recognition
        by Rensselaer County at its Honor a Deceased Veteran
        Ceremony on May 13, 2019

  WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of  New  York,
who  have  served  so  valiantly  and  honorably  in  wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of  peace
in peacetime, deserve a special salute; and

  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Clinton J.
Winnie  posthumously  upon  the  occasion of his designation for special
recognition by  Rensselaer  County  at  its  Honor  a  Deceased  Veteran
Ceremony to be celebrated on Monday, May 13, 2019; and

  WHEREAS,  Clinton  John  Winnie was born on July 3, 1929, in Albany,
New York, the son of the late Clinton E.  and  Catherine  M.  (McCarthy)
Winnie;  he  attended  Albany High School before enlisting in the United
States Army on February 9, 1951; and

  WHEREAS, This brave soldier proudly served his country as  a  member
of Company B 43rd Engineer Construction Battalion; and

  WHEREAS,  For  his courageous service during the Korean War, Clinton
J.  Winnie was awarded the Korean Service Medal with  2  Bronze  Service
Stars, United Nations Service Medal and Merit Unit Commendation; and

  WHEREAS,  Upon the completion of his military service on January 24,
1953, Clinton J. Winnie and the former  Anne  I.  Bond  were  united  in
marriage on September 17, 1955; and

  WHEREAS,  Clinton  J.  Winnie  was  a truck driver for Hudson Valley
Paper Company for nine years; he went on to serve as an exterminator for
Linindoll's Pest Control in Albany for  17  years,  before  retiring  in
1994; and

  WHEREAS,  Active in his community, Clinton J. Winnie was a member of
the American Legion Melvin Roads Post No. 1231 and A.A.R.P.; and

  WHEREAS, Clinton J. Winnie died on August 11, 1997, at  the  age  of
68,  and is buried at Capital City Cemetery in East Greenbush, New York;
he leaves behind two surviving sons, Michael and Steven, as well as nine
grandchildren, Walter, Michelle,  Stephanie,  Shelly,  Shannon,  Steven,
Shawn, Shane and Sawyer; and

  WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with  which these men and women served their country, and must recognize
that no greater debt is owed than that owed  to  those  who  gave  their
lives  for  their beloved Nation and to those who continue to be missing
in action; and

  WHEREAS, Having exhibited his patriotism both at  home  and  abroad,
Clinton  J.  Winnie  demonstrated  his  love  for his country and merits
forevermore the highest respect of his State and Nation; and

  WHEREAS,  Our  Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
commend  Clinton  J.  Winnie  posthumously  upon  the  occasion  of  his
designation for special recognition by Rensselaer County at its Honor  a
Deceased Veteran Ceremony on May 13, 2019; and be it further

  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Clinton J. Winnie.
