STECK -- read once and referred to the Committee on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse -- committee discharged, bill amended, ordered reprinted as amended and recommitted to said committee AN ACT to amend the mental hygiene law, in relation to providing outreach services to make certain stakeholders aware of the independ- ent substance use disorder and mental health ombudsman program The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Subdivision (a) of section 33.27 of the mental hygiene law, 2 as added by section 1 of part FF of chapter 57 of the laws of 2018, is 3 amended to read as follows: 4 (a) There is hereby established the office of the independent 5 substance use disorder and mental health ombudsman program that will be 6 operated or selected by the office of [alcoholism and substance abuse] 7 addiction services and supports, in consultation with the office of 8 mental health for the purpose of assisting individuals with a substance 9 use disorder and/or mental illness to ensure that they receive appropri- 10 ate health insurance coverage. The office of addiction services and 11 supports in consultation with the office of mental health shall provide 12 annual outreach services to other state and local entities, including 13 but not limited to the division of veterans' services, the office for 14 people with developmental disabilities, the office of children and fami- 15 ly services, the department of corrections, or providers contracted by 16 such agencies to provide assistance to the impacted populations to make 17 them aware of the independent substance use disorder and mental health 18 ombudsman program and the assistance they provide. 19 § 2.
