       AN ACT to amend the executive  law,  in  relation  to  requiring  carbon
         monoxide detectors in commercial establishments
         THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
       BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
    1    Section 1. Section 378 of the executive law is amended by adding a new
    2  subdivision 17 to read as follows:
    3    17. STANDARDS FOR INSTALLATION OF CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS  REQUIRING
    4  THAT  COMMERCIAL ESTABLISHMENTS HAVE INSTALLED AN OPERABLE CARBON MONOX-
    5  IDE DETECTOR OF SUCH MANUFACTURE, DESIGN AND INSTALLATION  STANDARDS  AS
    6  ARE  ESTABLISHED  BY  THE  COUNCIL.  FOR  PURPOSES  OF THIS SUBDIVISION,
    7  COMMERCIAL ESTABLISHMENT MEANS ANY PREMISES  USED  FOR  THE  PURPOSE  OF
    8  CARRYING  ON OR EXERCISING ANY TRADE, BUSINESS, PROFESSION, VOCATION, OR
    9  COMMERCIAL OR CHARITABLE ACTIVITY, INCLUDING BUT NOT  LIMITED  TO  LAUN-
   10  DRIES, HOSPITALS, AND FOOD OR RESTAURANT ESTABLISHMENTS.
   11    S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
